Laurence Fox claims acting agent has ‘dropped him’ weeks after ‘racism’ row on Twitter

Laurence Fox has claimed his acting agent has dropped him over his controversial views.

The actor, 42, said online his agent “let him go on the phone” - adding her move “reaffirmed exactly why” he decided to launch his Reclaim political party.

It comes just weeks after he was embroiled in a heated exchange with a number of Twitter users including Coronation Street actress Nicola Thorp and the deputy chair of Stonewall, Simon Blake.

They accused him of racism after Fox suggested supermarket Sainsbury's was “promoting racial segregation and discrimination” by recognising the role black people had played throughout history across its supermarkets.

In the past, father-of-two Fox - whose ex-wife is actress Billie Piper - has caused controversy by criticising “woke” culture.” He clashed with academic Rachel Boyle on BBC Question Time after she called him a “white privileged male”.

On Twitter tonight, Fox wrote: “I want to thank my acting agent who let me go on the phone just now for reaffirming exactly why I am doing what I’m doing.

“Still waiting for a single example of anything I’ve ever said or done that could ever be deemed racist. We will reclaim freedom, fairness and common sense.”

His acting agent and personal publicist have been contacted for comment.

Fox, the star of ITV series Lewis, launched the Reclaim Party earlier this year. Issues such as championing freedom of speech, reforming certain public institutions like the BBC, “reclaiming British values” and celebrating British history are among its main objectives.

Fox has already raised £1 million for his new political party, including substantial sums from ex-Tory donors, according to The Sunday Telegraph
