Lauren Luke's makeup tutorial: blue eyeshadow

This look is very striking - I always get compliments when I wear it, and so will you. I start with an eye primer, usually Urban Decay's Primer Potion. Cover the whole eye, up to the brow. Photograph: Rui Faria/Guardian

Take a bright blue eye shadow - I've used a couple of vibrant marine-blue shades in Bobbi Brown Brights Eye Palette. Brush on carefully, making sure you don't mix the eye shadow with your primer. You want a nice matt layer that lies on top. Photograph: Rui Faria/Guardian

Now apply a line of leaf-green shadow to give an extra colourful feel. Take a fine, stiff-bristled liner brush which won't scatter the eye shadow but gets the colour where you need it. I dampen the brush with a wet wipe to get a really precise line. Photograph: Rui Faria/Guardian

Finish off with a slick of black liquid liner - the long tapered brush on Lancôme's Laque Liner makes it much easier to apply. Brush along the upper lash line, giving a little kick on the outer corners. Finally, tip your Photograph: Rui Faria/Guardian
