The late Lauren Bacall has been remembered during this year’s In Memoriam section of the Oscars. Bacall, who passed away last August at the age of 89, was known for her roles in films from Key Largo through to Dogville.

The actress was also the winner of an honorary Oscar in 2009 in recognition of her varied body of work. She was also nominated for a best supporting actress award for her role opposite Barbra Streisand in The Mirror Has Two Faces.

Bacall was known partly for her great love affair with her Big Sleep co-star Humphrey Bogart and was heartbroken after his death from cancer in 1957. Her most notable work in her latter years included roles in Paul Schrader’s The Walker, Lars von Trier’s Manderlay and Jonathan Glazer’s Birth.

Other actors featured in this year’s Academy tribute included Mickey Rooney, Robin Williams and Bob Hoskins.

The Academy Awards are taking place at the Dolby theatre in Los Angeles and are being hosted by Gone Girl star Neil Patrick Harris.
