Laura Woods trolls Tottenham after latest capitulation with subtle three-word tweet

Arsenal fan and talkSPORT presenter Laura Woods attempted to wind-up Tottenham fans during their side’s humiliating defeat at Newcastle on Sunday.

Spurs were thrashed 6-1 at St James’ Park in a shambolic performance which led club captain Hugo Lloris to apologise to fans for a “very embarrassing” game. The away side started atrociously and were blown away inside the opening stages by their top-four rivals.

Jacob Murphy opened the scoring inside two minutes and Newcastle did not let their foot off the gas, racing into a 5-0 lead after 21 minutes. Murphy and Alexander Isak both scored twice, while Joelinton also found the back of the net.

Harry Kane pulled a goal back after half-time before Callum Wilson rounded off a miserable away trip for Spurs. The result left Spurs in fifth, six points adrift of the Champions League places and drifting towards the end of the season.

It was a miserable day for Spurs in a day that felt significant as the game that possibly ended their hopes of qualifying for the top four this campaign. The manner of the defeat was the worst they had experienced in years, with many fans opting to leave St. James’s Park midway through the first half.

The tone of the game was unlikely to escape Arsenal fans, who have revelled in the fact their side is top of the Premier League this campaign amid the toils of their North London rivals, who pipped them a top four spot last season.

Have Your Say! Was Sunday’s loss the end of Tottenham’s top four hopes? Tell us what you think here.

Chief among them was presenter Woods, who posted on her Twitter account midway through the first half at Newcastle on Sunday, with the home side already five goals up: “If I speak…”

The match prompted questions over the future of Tottenham interim boss Cristian Stellini – who has been in charge of the team since Antonio Conte, to whom he was previously number two, was sacked on March 26 – and whether he would see out the remainder of the season in the dugout.

The possibility that he might be sacked and replaced did not seem to concern Stellini. Asked if his future in doubt, he told Sky Sports: "I have no answer for this. This is not a question for me."

Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann, who has dropped out of the race to be the next permanent manager, is thought to be the frontrunner to take the Spurs hotseat on a permanent basis from this summer.
