Laura Whitmore pays moving tribute to her friend Caroline Flack with a poem following her death

TV presenter Laura Whitmore chose a moving poem to pay tribute to her friend Caroline Flack following her tragic death.

Laura, who took over from Carolin e as presenter of the winter series of Love Island, said on social media that she was struggling to find the right words to address the passing of the fellow TV presenter.

"I’m trying to find the words but I can’t," she admitted.

So Laura posted a poem on her Instagram.

It reads: "To lose someone so special is really hard to bear. It hardly seems believable that you're no longer there.

"You left us far too early before your time, it seems, and now you'll never have the chance to fulfill all those dreams.

"However hard it is though we'll take comfort in the thought of all the memories we have and the happiness you brought.

"You always lived life to the full but ours won't be the same until the day when we can see your smiling face again."

Caroline's family confirmed the tragic news of her death on Saturday, saying in a statement: "We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February. We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time."

The 40-year-old was reportedly found at her London flat.

The previous day the Love Island host shared four photos of herself and her beloved French bulldog on Instagram.

In December, the dating show presenter was arrested for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton at her home.

She was due to stand trial on March 4 after pleading not guilty to assault following an argument with Lewis, who she was banned from contacting after being charged with the alleged assault in December.

Before taking over the Love Island gig from Caroline, who stood down in December after being charged, Laura said that she has been in touch with her friend.

"It was a little bit of a whirlwind. When Caroline stepped down she actually sent me a text message saying: 'I really hope that you get to do this series," Laura told Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning.

She described her fellow presenter as "a brilliant host and also a friend" before explaining how she had 'pushed' Laura for the role.

An ITV spokeswoman said: “Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news.

"Caroline was a much loved member of the Love Island team and our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends."
