Laura Whitmore and Iain Stirling's gruelling Love Island days as she jokes he wants a break

Laura Whitmore has been confirmed as the new host of Love Island following the news that Caroline Flack stepped down after she was arrested for an alleged assault against her boyfriend.

But while it's a huge step forward in Laura's career, the hard work is about to begin for the TV presenter.

The Irish beauty, 34, will join her boyfriend Iain Stirling in South Africa in a few weeks to begin filming and the pair can look forward to long days and hectic schedules.

Laura will present the main show which airs nightly at 9pm on ITV2, as well as hosting Love Island: Aftersun from a London TV studio on Monday nights.

Caroline started getting ready for the last few seasons with months to go, revealing filming began in April when the show wasn't on air until June.

This means Laura will have just a few short weeks to get ready to take over as host.

Love Island presenters always have to be on standby as producers will call recouplings or live shows with just a day's notice.

In the last series Caroline revealed how her phone went off in the middle of her dinner, which she had to abandon to get to the set.

She was flying back and forth between the UK and Majorca, which at two and a half hours is a much shorter flight than the 13 hour round trip from London to South Africa that awaits Laura and Iain.

Days on set can be hectic with 200 cast and crew working all hours to film all the action in the villa.

It is also a very private set and guarded 24 hours a day by the elite SPG security firm.

But Iain doesn't have much cause for complaint, previously revealing that he doesn't have to do early mornings.

Speaking on The One Show, he said: "The bosses have a meeting in the morning, they have a look at the show, at about two o'clock the show is basically all but done.

"Then me and my friend Mark, a fellow Scotsman we go into a little portacabin," Iain continued.

"We sit beside each other and we watch the show and then start trying to tell the story and make some jokes."

Laura had joked that Iain thought he was "getting a holiday" from her.

She said in her statement: "The Love Island team are the best in the business… including the voice and heart of the show, Iain. He thought he was getting a holiday away from me… not a chance!"
