Laura strengthens into hurricane near Cuba: U.S. NHC

Laura strengthened on Tuesday to become a Category 1 hurricane near the western tip of Cuba, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

The hurricane was about 145 miles (235 km) northwest of the western tip of Cuba with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph), the Miami-based forecaster said.
