Laura Muir seeking capital gains in the Vitality Westminster Mile

Laura Muir lines up in the Vitality Westminster Mile on Sunday for the first time in six years as she takes part in her first competitive run since winning double gold at the European Indoors in March.

This is a mere stepping stone, however, to the season’s climax: the World Championships 1500metres in Doha, followed by next year’s Olympics.

After IAAF president Seb Coe tipped the Scot to win gold in Tokyo, Muir told Standard Sport: “Hearing such quotes from big names in the sport is lovely.

"I see it more as support and encouragement rather than pressure.

"My main goal this season is to medal at Doha. That would be great.”
