Laura Muir and Jemma Reekie split from coach Andy Young after South Africa training row

Laura Muir and Jemma Reekie have parted company with coach Andy Young following a row while on a high-altitude training camp in South Africa.

The Scottish pair quit the camp early and flew home, and on Friday announced they had now split from Young with immediate effect.

Under his tutelage, Muir had won 1500metres Olympic silver, world bronze and European titles, while Reekie narrowly missed out on a medal at the Tokyo Olympics with fourth in the 800m.

A statement released on Friday said: “UK Athletics (UKA) can confirm Laura Muir and Jemma Reekie have made the decision to part ways with their coach Andy Young.

Fellow Scottish star Jemma Reekie has also parted company with Young (PA)

“Both athletes would like to thank Andy for his commitment and support over the years.

“They are now focussed on making decisions around their support network and coaching set-up for the future and will not be making any further comment. UKA staff are continuing to support the athletes during this time.”
