Laura Muir admits she has target on back after conquering Europe - but LOVES it

Laura Muir says becoming European athletics’ golden girl again convinces her she can conquer the world.

Muir completed the double-double in Glasgow last month when retaining her 1500m and 3000m titles at the European Indoor Championships.

Her historic achievement erased memories of previous disappointments and confirmed her as a major player heading towards the World Championships this autumn.

“Glasgow was a great confidence booster,” said the Scot. “I’m one of the ones with a target on my back, people are looking for me now.

“A few years ago, I’d have struggled with the attention and the expectation to be at the front and win races. Now I don’t see it as pressure. I want to deliver. It’s what you want the year before an Olympics.”

Laura Muir seals place in history with first ever double-double at Euro Indoors

Muir intends to use the Vitality Westminster Mile, in London on Sunday May 26, as a springboard into her outdoor track season.

“I always had ability,” she added. “But to execute - how to judge it, how to cover, what runs to let go - it’s a big mental process. It shows how far I have come. I am in a good state of mind now.”
