Viewers question why Laura Kuenssberg show dodges Jeremy Clarkson article

VIEWERS have questioned Laura Kuenssberg’s decision not to discuss an article written by Jeremy Clarkson about Meghan Markle on her Sunday morning BBC show.

The former Top Gear presenter has been heavily criticised for a "vile" opinion piece on the Duchess of Sussex.

Writing in The Sun, Clarkson said he lies in bed “grinding his teeth and dreaming of the day when she [Markle] is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her”.

It comes following the release of a Netflix series where the couple detailed their relationship with the royal family.

The Sun’s editor Victoria Newton appeared on the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg where she was asked about a series of front pages reporting Prince Harry and Markle want an “apology” over the way they have been treated.

However, Kuenssberg did not ask any of the panel about Clarkson’s piece, which has been described on social media as “vicious” and “misogynistic”.

One user said: “Is Laura Kuenssberg not going to ask about the violently misogynistic attack on Meghan Markle?”

Upon posting the list of guests appearing on Sunday’s show, many urged the broadcaster to “please ask” about the article while another said the article was an “outstandingly vicious and hateful” piece.

Asked about reports of a “conspiracy” against the couple by Buckingham Palace and the media, Newton said this did not stack up.

“We had lots of dealings with the press officers at the time for Harry and Meghan and in particular I remember some of my dealings with them going back to when they were still in the family”, she said.

Newton added: “Never once was I given a negative story about other members of the royal family to look after William and Kate for example.

“A lot of the time we were given more positive stories about Harry and Meghan from the royal story officially.”

She continued: “The idea that we were always favouring William and Kate or the other royals over them is just simply not true.”
