Laura Harrier: Some stars use activism to boost their own profiles

Spider-Man star Laura Harrier has taken a swipe at celebrities who exploit causes to further their careers.

The 29-year-old often talks about the representation of black actresses in Hollywood.

She said she feels obliged to use her platform to speak out but is concerned some actors only do so to raise their profile.

Harrier, who plays Liz Allan in Spider-Man: Homecoming and upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home, told The September Issues: “If we can raise awareness or bring people’s attention to something that they might not know about, that’s incredible.

Speaking out: Laura Harrier appears in The September Issues (Mary Rozzi / The September Issues)

“I get a bad taste in my mouth when people are doing this to be seen in a certain light.”

Harrier also posed in a shoot photographed by TSI creative director Mary Rozzi.

The magazine's new website launches today.
