Two people charged over alleged murder of Jake Anderson-Brettner

Tasmania Police have charged a couple over the alleged murder of 24-year-old Jake Daniel Anderson-Brettner.

Jack Harrison Vincent Sadler, 26, of the Launceston suburb of Riverside, was charged with murder on Tuesday.

Gem Clark, 25, also of Riverside, has been charged with accessory after the fact of murder.

"Charging two people in relation to the murder of Jake is a significant development in the police investigation and the result of some excellent police work aided by public assistance," Detective Acting Inspector Craig Fox said.

"A body located near Targa on Sunday has not yet been formally identified but it is believed to be Jake.

"The body was not intact and police will continue to extensively search multiple locations across Launceston to provide Jake's family with closure.

"The circumstances of Jake's death are traumatic and our thoughts and condolences are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time."

Mr Anderson-Brettner, 24, was last seen alive about 6:00pm on August 15.

His ute was found unoccupied in Balmoral Avenue, Riverside, the following day.

Apart from the torso, no other body parts have been located.

Police have been searching wheelie bins across Launceston as well as the Remount Road tip.

The ABC understands Mr Anderson-Brettner was shot and that police recovered a firearm.

Mr Sadler and Ms Clark will appear before Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
