'Laughing gas teen' on driving rap after 16-year-old girl hit by car

Cops found 'laughing gas' in a car after a teenage girl was run over in Musselburgh.

Officers were called to Inveresk Industrial Park at around 6.40pm last Wednesday after someone was reportedly hit by a car.

The 16-year-old was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with a serious injury but released a short time later.

Officers searched the car and found nitrous oxide canisters inside.

A 17-year-old youth has been charged with alleged dangerous driving and the supply of a psychoactive substance.

A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Chief Inspector Neil Mitchell, Area Commander said: “Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a psychoactive substance, which is illegal to supply or sell on.

“Users can also suffer various health implications including dizziness caused by lack of oxygen to the brain.

“Any intelligence received by East Lothian police in relation to the supply of this substance will be robustly investigated by local officers."

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
