Laughing fly-tipper forced to drag fridge back up steep hill and fined £41,000

A flytipper who threw a fridge off the side of a cliff got more than he bargained for - when police forced him to drag it back up again.

The man was filmed laughing as he hurled the appliance over a barrier and watch it vanish into the undergrowth.

But Spanish authorities did not see the funny side, and the "remorseful" 24-year-old was later filmed lugging the fridge back up the hill.

On top of the unusual punishment, reports in Spain claim he was also forced to cough up 45,000 Euros - the equivalent of £41,000 for the environmental crime.

He was also sacked from his job at an environmental services firm.

It happened in Almeria, where the man, wearing a red t-shirt and sunglasses, was filmed by a pal disposing of the fridge.

The Asociacion Unificada de Guardias Civiles (AUGC) posted the first video on Twitter , saying that he had been identified by friends.

In a second video, which the AUGC later shared, two men are seen struggling to get the fridge back up the hill.

He told El Espanol: “I really regret what I’ve done because it’s meant I’ve lost my job and has aggravated the problems I have with anxiety.

"All I want now is for this to go away and the effect it’s having on my family, my girlfriend and me.

"I don’t want people to have this image of me, as though I were a murderer."
