'Laughable' - Liverpool fans question Euro 2020 referee after Harry Wilson red card

Liverpool fans have questioned the referee and VAR after Harry Wilson was shown a red card during their defeat against Denmark in Euro 2020.

The Welsh side were dumped out of the tournament in the first knockout round after a resounding 4-0 defeat.

A Kasper Dolberg brace either side of half-time saw the Danes gain full control of the tie before Joakim Mæhle and Martin Braithwaite added two more to complete their route to the quarter-finals.

Reds winger Wilson was brought on in hope of making a difference but ended up being sent off in the final minutes.

Daniel Siebert was the match official for the round of 16 clash and Liverpool fans may remember him.

The 37-year-old was in charge of the Reds during their quest for their sixth European Cup in their third group stage match against Red Star Belgrade.

He awarded Jurgen Klopp's side two penalties during their 4-0 win over the Serbians, one of which was converted by Mohamed Salah and the other taken by Sadio Mane was saved by Milan Borjan.

Siebert put himself in the spotlight again when he chose to send off Harry Wilson for a challenge on Maehle, a decision many disagreed with.

Liverpool fans were quick to react to the 'laughable' situation.

Although some mentioned the incident didn't hide the poor performance overall by Wales and hoped Benfica, who have been linked with a move for Wilson, weren't watching.

Former Wales and Stoke City manager Mark Hughes agreed with Reds fans.

Speaking on BBC, he said: "It was harsh in my view. A little bit of frustration, it wasn’t violent (nor did it) warrant a straight red. Clearly a booking but the referee was a little bit poor. It was a frustrating night all round for us."
