Lathi-charge has become order of the day in Punjab: SAD

AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of the alleged "frequent use of lathi-charges" against young protesters — who have been staging sit-ins, demanding jobs — maintaining that instead of issuing appointment letters to the youth, the AAP government appears to be responding with the use of force.

SAD leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, on Friday, claimed that during the 2022 assembly elections, Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Mann had made commitments to the youth and had assured that once the AAP government assumed power in the state, they would secure government jobs, had assured of regularization of contractual employees, and there would be lathi-charges on protestors.

“Bhagwant Mann had made lofty promises to the youth who had placed their faith in him and voted for the AAP, with the expectation that the party would address their unemployment concerns by providing them with stable government jobs. But instead of keeping his promises, the order of the day is to lathi charge the associations or the youth stating protest in support of their demands", said Majithia.

Former minister and a close relative of SAD president Sukhbir Badal appealed to Mann that instead of allegedly wasting resources of the state on taking Delhi CM and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal to different parts of the country, he should focus on fulfilling promises made to the people by the AAP.
