Perth and Kinross has recorded a single COVID-19 death for the second week running.

One person had the coronavirus recorded on their death certificate in the week starting March 8, according to new figures from the National Records of Scotland.

Two-hundred-and-forty-nine people have now died from the pathogen in Perth and Kinross.

The two deaths in the past fortnight is the lowest two-week total since October.

COVID deaths in the region spiked in the week beginning January 18 when 29 were recorded.

Nearly 10,000 people in Scotland have now had COVID-19 recorded on their death certificate.

In the week March 8-14, 104 deaths were registered that mentioned COVID-19 on the death certificate across Scotland, a decrease of 38 deaths from the previous week.

Over 80 per cent of deaths in that week occurred in hospital, representing 86 deaths, 14 deaths occurred in care homes and 4 at home or in non-institutional settings.

Deaths from all causes are below average for this time of year.
