Latest update on new Chiefs WR Josh Gordon heading into Week 5

The latest report prior to the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 4 win against the Philadelphia Eagles said the new WR Josh Gordon has a real chance to be active against the Buffalo Bills in Week 5. The report said that Gordon was in tremendous shape and had a good first week of practice. He picked up portions of the playbook quickly because Brad Childress (an Andy Reid disciple) was his offensive coordinator as a rookie.

On Monday morning, however, Reid was non-committal to Gordon’s status heading into the new week.

“Yeah, I’m going to just see how he does this week and talk to him,” Reid told reporters on Monday. “I haven’t talked to him today, but we’ll just see kind of where he’s at and how he’s feeling. There’s a chance, but there’s a chance he’s not also. I’m going to just play it by ear and see how he feels. It’s really more of a comfort thing with the offense. I don’t want to put him in a bad situation out there.”

It’s clear that Gordon made positive strides in his first week with the team. He’s learning the playbook and scheme, while also building chemistry with his new quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Ultimately, whether Gordon plays will be up to the practice week and how comfortable he feels within the offense at the end of it. It might be a pivotal AFC conference matchup in prime time, but putting Gordon out there before he’s ready can do more harm than good.
