Latest update on ex-QPR and Sunderland defender Joel Lynch's Bolton Wanderers trial

Joel Lynch is not currently training with Bolton Wanderers as the League Two club considers its position regarding the central defender, Ian Evatt has said.

The 33-year-old has been training with the Trotters in recent weeks and has been a free agent since leaving League One side Sunderland last year.

He was previously training with Southend United but is currently on trial at Bolton's Lostock training ground.

Lynch is a vastly experienced defender who counts Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield Town, QPR and Sunderland as among his former clubs.

The defender had been in on trial at the League Two clubs as both parties assess one another.

But speaking ahead of tomorrow evening's clash against Scunthorpe United, Evatt confirmed the defender is not currently training with the club as Wanderers assess their position

When asked if Lynch was still training with the Trotters, Evatt said: "At the moment, no.

"We’re really considering our position with it really and deciding on what we want to do."

And Evatt has also dismissed any suggestion that the removal of the salary cap in recent weeks has had anything to do with the development.

He said: “The salary cap going has obviously helped me, really,

"It’s irrelevant really because we’re not going to be that club that overspends anyway. We want to be sustainable with what we do, so we’re not going to gamble and buy our way out of this league.

"When we finished the window, we were well within the salary cap and we’ve still got money available. We’ll see how it progresses."
