Latest Tottenham transfer rumours: Why Everton's Paulo Gazzaniga bid failed, Slimani interest

Whilst yesterday's transfer deadline means Premier League clubs cannot sign players from abroad, there is an extended domestic deadline.

It means Spurs can still sign EFL players, hence links to Swansea City's Joe Rodon.

After a dramatic deadline, here are the latest Spurs transfer rumours.

Gazzaniga's Everton move blocked

The Telegraph report that Spurs blocked Paulo Gazzaniga's potential deadline day move to Everton.

Joe Rodon to Spurs: Have you met Daniel Levy?

Carlo Ancelotti's side were keen to bring in Gazzaniga to challenge current number one Jordan Pickford at Goodison Park.

Yet Spurs rejected their advances due to the fact they view the Toffees as top-four rivals.

Instead, the Toffees signed Robin Olsen from Roma.

Keeper to leave in January

Despite this, the Standard report that Spurs still hope to sell Gazzaniga in the new year.

Liverpool were also linked with the goalkeeper, who has fallen to third-choice at Spurs following Joe Hart's arrival.

The decision to sign Hart on a free transfer could prove profitable if they manage to net a fee for Gazzaniga

Slimani reveals interest

Leicester City striker Islam Slimani has revealed Spurs tried to sign him in January.

The striker had a disappointing loan spell at Fenerbahce last season but it was almost cut short after a phone call from Jose Mourinho.

“In the space of six months, I went from the nightmare at Fenerbahçe to a phone call from José Mourinho who wanted to sign me,” the 32-year-old told France Football.

“It shows that I worked well. Knowing that your profile is appreciated gives you strength and confidence.”
