Latest Tottenham transfer rumours: Upamecano claim, Vertonghen decision, Newcastle join race

Tottenham are edging closer to the Premier League top four this season but recruitment is clearly needed in the summer window.

Spurs are four points off the top four places going into the back end of the season, while the club are still in the FA Cup and the Champions League.

Whatever happens this season it's clear that more recruitment is needed and the rumour mill is even heating up in February.

Here is the latest round-up.

Jose Mourinho on Spurs' progress under him

Newcastle and Man Utd fighting for Tottenham target

Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi.

Tottenham, Manchester United, Burnley and Leicester City have already been linked with the 25-year-old but now Newcastle have been added to the mix.

Muriqi has starred for Fenerbahce this season and scored 13 goals in 22 games since joining the club last summer.

Turkish media outlet Net Haber have claimed that Newcastle are now eyeing up the forward.

Spurs were linked with the player last month during the January transfer window.

Mourinho scouts summer target

It has been claimed that Jose Mourinho was at RB Leipzig's draw with Bayern Munich at the weekend to scout Dayot Upamecano.

Spurs face Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 stage but The Sun say that Mourinho was also in Germany to scout Upamecano.

The 21-year-old defender has also attracted the attention of Arsenal, with the centre-back having a £50million release clause in his contract.

Vertonghen makes decision on his future

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen does not want to return to one of his former clubs.

The 32-year-old is out of contract this summer and his future is in doubt.

The Belgium international has been linked with a return to Ajax but De Telegraaf have reported that Vertonghen would prefer not to make the switch back to Holland.
