Latest Tottenham transfer rumours: Spurs eye Arsenal target, Gazzaniga backed for surprise move

Tottenham Hotspur will be aiming to move themselves even further into the Premier League title shake-up when they lock horns with Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening.

Spurs, who enjoyed a memorable summer transfer window, headlined by the return of Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, signed off for the current international break with a hard-fought 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns, ensuring they would resume their campaign second in the Premier League table.

Victory against City on Saturday would highlight Spurs' desire to be considered as a genuine title contender this season, as a win over Pep Guardiola's troops would see them open up an eight-point gap on the Etihad Stadium outfit.

Will Spurs make January transfers?

Should Spurs be in the running for the title come the start of the January transfer window, Daniel Levy - the club's owner - may hand Jose Mourinho a transfer kitty to play with to make necessary additions to his squad to try and give them an even greater chance of lifting the title for the very first time.

With that in mind, here is a round-up of all the very latest Tottenham transfer gossip.

Liverpool tipped to make Gazzaniga move

Former Spurs and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Argentine Paulo Gazzaniga could leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January and seal a move to Liverpool.

Following the summer arrival of Joe Hart, Gazzaniga has fallen to third in the pecking order in north London, with Hugo Lloris and Hart ahead of him.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said: “I think he thought he was gone [in the summer]. I suspect something was lined up and he thought he was leaving and that is why Jose Mourinho brought in Joe Hart.

“There’s been talk of Aston Villa and Liverpool, teams looking for backups. I think his head was turned and in his mind he may have thought he was gone.

“I could see him leaving in January. He will not want to sit there as number three because he even had a taste of being number one while Huge was out.

“We will see Gazzaniga move on in January or the end of the season. He is not a number three goalkeeper, he is a top goalkeeper."

Spurs join Szoboszlai hunt

Tottenham are ready to rival north London neighbours Arsenal for the signature of highly-rated Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, according to a report by 90Min.

The young, exciting Hungarian midfielder is attracting plenty of interest from across Europe, with Arsenal having been long-term admirers of the 20-year-old.

But despite Arsenal having been the leading front-runners in the race to sign the youngster, it is now reported that Spurs have joined the race.

The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also claimed to be big admirers of the Salzburg ace, who has scored five goals in 13 appearances so far this term, as well as bagging nine assists.

Arsenal eye Eriksen swoop

Former Spurs midfield architect Christian Eriksen is being linked with a shock move back to the Premier League to join Arsenal.

According to a report by Corriere Dello Sport, the Gunners could be in line to land the Denmark international as Inter Milan, his current club, look to bolster the defensive-midfield options.

It is claimed that Inter, who are managed by former Chelsea chief Antonio Conte, are interesting in landing Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, with the prospect of a swap deal involving him and Eriksen not out of the question.

Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal boss, is keen to add an attacking midfielder to his squad, meaning a move for Eriksen may be something he wishes to consider.

Should Eriksen seal a shock move to the Emirates Stadium, he would join the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Willian Gallas and Sol Campbell in having played for both Tottenham and Arsenal.
