Latest Tottenham transfer rumours: Spurs 'contemplating' re-signing midfield ace, Brooks blow

The focus at Tottenham Hotspur is very much on on-field matters ahead of tomorrow evening’s trip to Burnley, but the transfer rumour mill keeps churning.

In spite of the wider economic issues and uncertainty, Spurs were one of the most active Premier League clubs in the transfer market this summer, bolstering Jose Mourinho’s squad during his first summer in charge.

But there’s plenty of suggestions that chairman Daniel Levy could give the go-ahead for further investment in January, with new names emerging ahead of the mid-season transfer window.

There’s also the prospect of players being let go, with potential destinations for Danny Rose after the experienced left-back was left out of Spurs’ 25-man Premier League squad.

Mourinho promises more from Vinicius

With all that in mind, here’s all the latest Tottenham transfer news and gossip.

Mourinho calls for further investment next summer

Mourinho is hoping that Tottenham can emulate Liverpool by investing in the squad season upon season.

Daniel Levy has sanctioned over £70million on permanent deals for Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Joe Rodon, as well as a loan deal to bring Gareth Bale back to the club from Real Madrid this summer.

The club’s Portuguese coach is hoping the club will show similar ambition in future windows as he looks to continue building his squad in north London.

"More than the squad, it is time to work and time for evolution,” the Spurs boss said ( via FourFourTwo ).

"It is time to affect the team not just the way we play, but the way we think - sometimes the way we think takes more time than other things.

"I am very happy with the squad but, of course, next summer we will need to give a couple of touches but this is what you always do to improve the squad.

"Look at Liverpool, for example, when Jurgen [Klopp] has been there. How many transfer windows? He went to the market and improved the team.”

Sheffield United emerge as competitors for Bournemouth starlet

Following the Daily Mail’s report last week that Liverpool and Tottenham remain interested in Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks, Sheffield United have emerged as competitors for his signature.

The highly-rated Wales international made 33 appearances for Chris Wilder’s Blades in his breakthrough 2017/18 campaign, earning a move to the Vitality Stadium in the process.

But the tables have since turned, with the Blades establishing themselves as a Premier League club as the Cherries’ five-year stint in the Premier League came to an end in the summer.

Brooks was frequently tipped to leave Bournemouth in the summer but remained. Now, the Sheffield Star report that Wilder will push to bring him back to Bramall Lane in the January transfer window.

Eriksen ‘disillusioned’ in Milan amid rumours of Spurs return

Christian Eriksen is unhappy with his lack of gametime at Inter Milan and could leave the Serie A giants just a year after signing, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Denmark international has started just two of Inter’s five league matches so far this season, and was pushed to the periphery of Antonio Conte’s squad over the summer.

Italian Journalist Mario Sconcerti has suggested that Eriksen “doesn’t seem to care” at Inter and was criticised for his performance in their 2-2 Champions League draw with Borussia Monchengladbach last week ( via Sempre Inter ).

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham are “ contemplating taking him back ” following reports (via Football Insider ) that they were offered the playmaker back on loan shortly before the transfer deadline passed earlier this month.
