Latest Tottenham transfer rumours: Rodon update, Dost admission, Scholes' Kane claim

The latest Tottenham transfer news and rumours after the close of the international window and ahead of the domestic-only window deadline.

Dutch striker reveals he never wanted to join Spurs

A number of strikers were linked with a move to Tottenham over the summer before the club completed a move for Carlos Vinicius.

One of the players mentioned in connection with a switch to north London was Bas Dost, but the Eintracht Frankfurt man has claimed he never wanted to make the move.

The Dutch international told Bild, per HITC, that while there was interest from Spurs, he never wanted to join a club where he wouldn’t be first choice.

“I heard from my advisor that [Tottenham] were really there and were interested, but I don’t think it was ever an issue for me to be a regular there, and I just want to play,” the former Sporting CP striker said.

“That’s something, but if you look at my career, I’ve never left a club after just one season. Not now either, especially since I’ve only been able to show a little here. I’m far from finished with Eintracht."

Harry Kane shows a flash of pace

Scholes makes Man Utd claim about Tottenham man

Manchester United appeared to prioritise Jadon Sancho over the summer, but former United midfielder Paul Scholes believes the club should have moved for a different England forward.

Scholes is the latest ex-United player to suggest the club should have gone big on Harry Kane, rather than targeting a player like Sancho.

Kane was linked with a move away from Tottenham due to concerns over the club’s ambitions, but has remained in north London and has scored eight goals in as many games this season.

United eventually moved for Edinson Cavani on deadline day, signing the veteran on a free, but Scholes has raised doubts about Anthony Martial’s ability to lead the line.

“The problem with United’s forwards is that none of them is an actual centre-forward,” Scholes told Stadium Astro.

“Martial almost conned us into thinking he was towards the end of last season because he scored so many goals but he has started this season poorly again, which makes you think he isn’t.

“So, it’s misleading. That is why I keep saying we need a top class number nine. Kane or [Borussia Dortmund’s Erling] Haaland.”

Rodon latest

Tottenham have until Friday to complete a deal for Swansea City defender Joe Rodon, and reports suggest everything will still go as planned.

Rodon is currently away on international duty with Wales, for whom he has featured in matches against England and Ireland, but progress on his transfer is expected upon his return.

According to the Athletic, Spurs and Swansea are still some way apart on their valuation of the 22-year-old, who came through the Welsh club’s academy.

The report suggests Rodon himself is keen on a move, but there remains a chance that he is loaned back to Swansea for the season after a deal is finalised.

Rodon played his 50th league game for Swansea earlier this season, having made his senior debut for the club during the 2018/19 campaign, and played the full 90 minutes against Ireland in a defence which also included Spurs’ former Swansea man Ben Davies.
