Latest Tottenham transfer rumours: Pochettino hints at return, Spurs urged to move for Havertz

Tottenham's push for Champions League football in 2020/21 looks set to be reignited as the Premier League continues to push towards a restart in June.

The season has been suspended due to the coronavirus crisis but a significant step was taken last week with the first stage of returning to training.

That provides optimism that the campaign can be completed behind closed doors as Spurs will have work to do ahead of Jose Mourinho's first summer transfer window in charge.

While there hasn't been matches played, the transfer rumours have not stopped and we have gathered some of the latest orientating around Spurs.

Pochettino teases return

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has teased a potential return to the Premier League following the end of his gardening leave with the Lilywhites.

The Argentine has been linked with a move to Newcastle United after their £300m takeover is completed and Pochettino has hinted at a return.

“Football is very dynamic and you need to be ready for the moment when the offer appears, the new chapter in your professional life," he said.

“Always, you dream of the perfect club. The perfect project. But it’s difficult to discover what that is until the project is on the table.”

Vertonghen could leave next month

Jan Vertonghen could leave Tottenham on June 30 when his contract expires as there is no sign of an extension being penned, ESPN reports.

Premier League clubs have voted to approve legislation for short-term extensions to contracts until the end of the 2019/20 season due to the coronavirus crisis, which Vertonghen could sign.

However, the Belgium international is yet to commit himself to even a short-term extension, which would need to be agreed by the club and the player.

The report adds he is holding out for a two-year deal and £70k-a-week, which Spurs are unwilling to meet, and it could lead to his unavailability when the season resumes.

Bent encourages Havertz swoop

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has urged Tottenham to swoop for highly-coveted Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz in the next transfer window.

The 20-year-old Germany international has been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City, with interest rising after Havertz scored back-to-back braces for Leverkusen after the Bundesliga's restart - and Bent wants Spurs to make a move.

“He’s a very good player and he’s linked with a lot of big clubs around the world so if you can steal him, then what a coup that would be for your club. If you can get top players like that, you go and get them," he told Football Insider.

“His favoured position is a number 10 so that would be perfect because you’re talking about him, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son – I think that would work really, really well."
