Tottenham had enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence under Jose Mourinho but now the reality is starting to set in that significant recruitment is needed this summer.
But the upcoming transfer window could be very fluid for Tottenham. Whilst Mourinho will naturally want to improve his squad, equally difficult could be the aim to keep hold of key players.
Even in March the rumour mill is heating up and that is highlighted by the latest gossip round-up.
Here are the latest rumours.
Kane transfer plan
Tottenham are prepared to offer Harry Kane a new contract to stop the England captain from leaving for Manchester United.
Goal report that Kane has made it clear he wants to depart during the summer window and that he favours a move to United.
But the Daily Telegraph have countered this news with a report detailing that Spurs are willing to throw a new bumper deal Kane's way to prevent him from jumping ship.
Smalling update
Manchester United's Chris Smalling will be hot property this summer after an impressive loan spell at Roma to date.
Tottenham are interested in signing the 30-year-old defender, who has also been linked with a switch to Everton.
Gazzetta dello Sport have now reported that Smalling is open to options but will contemplate his future once the season ends.
Scouting midfielder
Tottenham are keeping tabs on Olympiacos' Mady Camara by scouting the midfielder, according to reports.
Greek website Pagenews, per Sport Witness, say that Spurs are closely watching the 23-year-old.
Sheffield United also reportedly tabled an offer for the playmaker in the January transfer window.
