Latest Tottenham transfer rumours: Chelsea defender linked, Gerson offer, Gareth Bale return

While we await the resumption of this season, Jose Mourinho has plenty to address at Tottenham.

Spurs will be hoping to strengthen their squad ahead of next season after what has been a disappointing season so far, sitting eighth in the Premier League table.

With that in mind, here are the latest transfer rumours surrounding the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Mourinho asks Spurs to pursue Zouma transfer

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly requested that the club pursue a move for Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma.

The Portuguese has previously worked with the French defender, having signed him as Chelsea manager in 2014 from Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne.

Zouma has endured a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge since moving to the Premier League six years ago but an increase in game time this season under Frank Lampard has seen the 25-year-old enjoy a successful campaign.

However, RMC Sport claim that Mourinho has ordered Spurs’ senior figures to explore the option of signing the 25-year-old from his former club.

It is believed that Spurs are yet to make a formal approach for Zouma though Chelsea would be willing to sell the defender at the end of the current Premier League season.

Gerson offer rejected by Flamengo

Spurs have reportedly had a £16million offer rejected for Flamengo midfielder Gerson with the club standing firm on their transfer stance.

The Brazilian club have no intention of selling their talented midfielder in the upcoming transfer window, according to Goal.

It is believed that Spurs offered around £16million for the 23-year-old who has been impressive for Jorge Jesus’ side this season. Both Flamengo and Gerson himself seem set on staying together beyond this season with the midfielder wanting to continue his development in Brazil over the next 12 months.

Gerson has previously played in Europe for Serie A side Roma, however an unsuccessful spell there appears to be putting him off of a move back to a major European league in the near future.

Bale’s agent rubbishes claims of a return to Spurs

Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has provided scathing comments about the media and insists that the Real Madrid forward will not be returning to the Premier League.

Spurs have been linked with a move for their former man on a number of occasions in the past but comments made by Barnett suggest that he won’t be teaming up with Mourinho any time soon.

The 30-year-old had signed for Real Madrid back in 2013 from Spurs, but the chances of returning to North London look highly unlikely.

In a heated interview, Bale’s agent slammed the media for speculating over the Wales international’s future in the Spanish capital.

"They don't do their work properly. Not all journalists but most don't do their homework properly, they don't research it, they just copy each other and write, say things that they think people want to hear and most of the time it's complete rubbish," he told TalkSport.

"It's very annoying. Nothing bad has ever come out of Real Madrid about Gareth Bale, Zinedine Zidane has never said anything really bad about Gareth Bale but the press keep on and on, keep making things up.

"So-called experts come onto television time and time again saying the biggest problem with Gareth is that he doesn't speak Spanish. and it's a disgrace.”
