Latest Tottenham transfer rumours: Bale hopes boosted, Coutinho move collapsed, Willian boost

The future of the remainder of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign remains in limbo following the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The Premier League, alongside the EFL, announced last week that all matches had been suspended until the first weekend in April in an attempt to slow down the spread of COVID-19.

But with the number of confirmed cases of the virus in the UK only increasing, it is highly unlikely that the season will resume on April 4.

The Premier League is set to hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss all of the possible outcomes that may need to be implemented over the next few weeks and months.

Though this period of uncertainty is no good for anybody, it could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Tottenham Hotspur and manager Jose Mourinho as they look to try and re-group after a dismal run of form. A massive summer lies ahead of the Portuguese chief as he looks to try and put his own stamp on the squad he inherited from former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

With that in mind, here is a round-up of the day’s very latest Tottenham transfer news.

Coutinho agreed Spurs switch

Diario Sport have revealed that Barcelona midfield star Philippe Coutinho had agreed to join Tottenham last summer only for negotiations between the two clubs to collapse.

Since joining the La Liga giants from Liverpool in January 2018 for a fee worth more than £100million, his time in Spain has not lived up to expectation.

And with Barcelona willing to let him go last summer, Spurs registered their interest in signing the Brazilian.

Eventually, the former Inter Milan midfielder joined Bayern Munich on a season-long loan.

Spurs offered Bale hope

The chances of Tottenham one day re-signing Welsh wizard Gareth Bale have been boosted with the news that Real Madrid are willing to let him go this summer, according to a report by Sport.

Bale has been growing under heavy pressure from the Madrid fans for some time now after revealing that he wanted to leave the club over a year ago.

His performance levels have seriously dipped and manager Zinedine Zidane is eager to offload him, as it would open up huge amounts of leeway for any further signings due to his weekly wage being so high.

Bale is under contract at the Bernabeu until the summer of 2022.

Willian latest

Barcelona are set to turn down the opportunity to sign out-of-contract Chelsea winger Willian on a free-transfer this summer, meaning Tottenham's hopes of landing the Brazilian have been boosted.

The Express are reporting that the La Liga club are not willing to press ahead with a move for the 31-year-old as they have their eye on another South American star.

This news has boosted Tottenham's and every other club's chance of landing the winger, who is showing no signs of penning a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

French club PSG and Juventus are amongst a host of clubs weighing up a move for the Brazil international.
