Latest Tottenham transfer rumours: Arkadiusz Milik twist, Joe Rodon blow, Matt Doherty praise

Tottenham Hotspur arguably had their best ever transfer window this summer - and there could yet be more to come.

Spurs brought in Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Matt Doherty on permanent deals, along with Carlos Vinicius on a season-long loan.

Oh, and there was the small matter of re-signing Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, also on a loan deal.

And with the domestic transfer window shutting on October 16, there may be time for one or two more purchases ahead.

Here are the latest Tottenham transfer stories.

Should Spurs win a trophy this season?

Milik competition

Spurs are reportedly facing competition with Everton to secure the signature of Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik, reports TUTTOmercatoWEB.

The Polish international was heavily linked with an exit over the summer but it came to nothing.

The 26-year-old's contract with Napoli expires in 2021 and the Italian club was hoping to get the striker for £23m, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The transfer saga has taken another twist after the striker has been left out of Napoli's squad for the season.

This could lead to a January exit for Milik, who has scored 34 goals in his last two seasons at the Serie A club.

Battle for Championship player

Leicester City have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Swansea City centre-back Joe Rodon, reports The Sun.

Spurs offered £7m for the 22-year-old but the Championship club are reported to be looking for a fee closer to the £20million mark.

That figure has reportedly increased since Everton signed Ben Godfrey from Norwich, with the Swans feeling Rodon’s price should be a similar sum.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers would prefer to swoop for the Welsh international in January or next summer, whereas Spurs want him before the October 16 transfer deadline.

It is understood that Rodon would like to play in the Premier League as soon as possible, however.

New signing praised

Spurs defender Ben Davies says right back Matt Doherty, who signed from Wolves this summer, has been a great addition to the club, reports The Irish Examiner.

The Irishman was a key player for the Midlands outfit, where he scored 15 goals and provided 15 assists in all competitions over the last two campaigns.

He did, however, miss the crucial penalty for his country against Slovakia as Ireland missed out on the European Championships.

But Davies was still full of praise for his new teammate.

“I haven’t spoken to him since the penalty,” said Davies. “Sometimes things are better left. But I get on really well with him.

"Since he’s come to Spurs he’s been excellent."

He added: "We spoke about the game last week and it will be a good competitive match against them."
