Spurs dealt Giroud blow

Chelsea have reportedly blocked a move for Olivier Giroud in January.

The striker is out of contract at the end of the season, and has been attempting to seal a move elsewhere this month, with Inter and Tottenham both reportedly interested in a move.

However, according to L’Equipe, Giroud will be staying at Stamford Bridge “unless there is a miracle” on Friday.

Chelsea have been unable to find a replacement for the striker with Tammy Abraham injured and Michy Batshuayi failing to convince.

Spurs and some unnamed French clubs are said to be monitoring the situation, but it looks like Giroud will be staying at Chelsea until the summer.

Spurs face Slimani dilemma

Foot Mercato, per Sport Witness are claiming that Tottenham would be forced to pay AS Monaco a compensation package of €2.5m if they want to sign Islam Slimani before Friday’s deadline.

Can hopes dashed

Tottenham looked have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Juventus midfield man Emre Can, with talks between the Italian club and Borussia Dortmund - Can’s most likely destination - stalled.

But Dortmund are now said to have reached a "total agreement" with Juventus on a deal for Can.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday evening that the midfielder will move to the Bundesliga on an initial loan, with an obligation to buy.
