Latest Tottenham transfer news: Man City star linked, Inter midfielder targeted, defender battle

Jose Mourinho has his first signing at Tottenham manager but is still seeking first reinforcements this month.

The Spurs boss saw Gedson Fernandes become his first recruit this week ahead of their clash with Watford.

However, a new defender and a replacement for Harry Kane would not go a miss as Tottenham look to catch up Chelsea in the race for Champions League football.

Here, we round-up the day's latest Tottenham transfer news.

Jose Mourinho says Inter are yet to make an offer for Christian Eriksen

Vecino wants Spurs move

Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino would like to join Tottenham this month but won't be part of any deal for Christian Eriksen.

The Uruguayan playmaker fancies a move to north London, according to the latest reports from  Corriere Dello Sport .

However, the same report states that he will not be included in any deal for Eriksen, even if Tottenham make a move for Vecino.

Spurs have signed Fernandes already but could further strengthen that area with Moussa Sissoko injured.

Shock Cancelo move

Tottenham could offer an escape to out-of-favour Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo.

The Portuguese right-back moved to the Etihad in the summer in a deal that saw Danilo join Juventus.

However, Cancelo has failed to dislodge Kyle Walker and is said to be unhappy with his game time under Pep Guardiola.

With Spurs keen to reinforce the right-back position, they could make a move for Cancelo, according to Spanish publication  El Desmarque .

Centre-back battle

Tottenham have joined Everton in the race to sign £18million Hellas Verona defender Marash Kumbulla, according to  Firenze Viola.

The 19-year-old has emerged as one of Serie A's brightest talents this season.

As a result, Spurs and Everton are both interested in signing the Algerian centre-back.

Carlo Ancelotti picked up on Kumbulla having spent time watching him whilst at Napoli.
