Latest statement from police after woman dies in M5 crash near Gloucester

A woman from Gloucester died following a crash on the M5 this morning (Thursday, January 2).

Police are yet to identify the woman but a spokesperson confirmed her next of kin has been informed.

The deadly crash took place at around 8.10am near Quedgeley.

What do we know about the incident?

Officers have confirmed two cars were involved in the collision between between junction 12 for Gloucester and junction 11A for Brockworth and Cirencester.

Medics rushed to her rescue - including an air ambulance - but tragically the woman was declared dead a short time later.

An inquest into her death is expected to be opened in the coming weeks.

A section of the motorway was closed for the majority of the day, reopening around 6pm.

Drivers faced long delays throughout the day while police collision investigators worked at the scene.

Any witnesses who haven’t yet contacted police should call 101 and quote incident 67 of 2 January.
