Christmas is fast approaching but new Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho will have to wait until the new year to receive any gifts from Daniel Levy as the Portuguese awaits his first transfer window as Spurs boss.
With just over two weeks to go until the January window opens, the club are already identifying potential new signings who could come in and give Tottenham a boost for the second half of the season.
Spurs aren’t exactly known for their big spending but at the same time Mourinho has a reputation for enjoying a flutter in the transfer market and with a top four spot suddenly back within reach, we could be seeing some new arrivals in north London next month.
Let’s take a look at today’s latest transfer rumours for Spurs.
Le Celso set to stay
First let’s start with a man already on the books at the club.
Giovani Lo Celso has become something of a forgotten man at Hotspur Way with the Argentine failing to nail down a starting spot since his move from Real Betis in the summer.
The 23-year-old arrived on loan initially and according to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo (as translated by Sport Witness), Betis “understand Spurs will exercise the option” to make his move permanent this January for €32million (£27.13million) instead of waiting until the summer when it would cost €40million (£33.91million).
The next Mousa Dembele
Tottenham are lining up a move for Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare next month, with the young Frenchman being hailed as the next Mousa Dembele by some.
Lille president Gerard Lopez confirmed that Jose Mourinho is interested in bringing the midfielder to north London but stressed to Le10 Sport that he is not the only one.
Manchester United are also believed to be interested in the 20-year-old who is valued at around £50million.
Demiral not moving in January
Juventus have shut the door on Merih Demiral leaving the club in January despite interest from a number of top clubs.
The 21-year-old has failed to establish a regular spot in the Juve first team this season leading to speculation that he could depart Turin but La Gazzetta Dello Sport report that he will be staying put.
Reports last week claimed that Spurs were one of several Premier League sides - as well as Arsenal and Manchester United - to express an interest in the Turk but that door appears to have closed for now.
