The army has urged almost 40,000 newly drafted recruits in this year's second conscription round to report to military registrars this week, saying they are needed to assist in many development projects initiated by the late King.
Conscripts stand in line at a military barracks. The army says they are required to report to military registrars this week so they can be assigned to units nationwide.
The draftees who went through screening are scheduled to report to registrars between Wednesday and Friday, deputy army spokeswoman Sirichan Ngathong said.
She said the conscripts who are drafted during this time will be able to assist in development projects royally initiated by the late King.
They need to bring identification cards, house registration documents and education certificates and Sor Dor 43, a certificate of their conscription screening results with them during the reporting process, she said.
This year's second batch of draftees, or 37,989 people in total, will be recruited by army units across the country, where they will undergo military training, learn to strengthen their character and have a chance to join vocational training sessions, she said.
The new conscripts are required to undergo 10-week training with an emphasis on preparing them physically. They would also be instilled with a sense of patriotism, sacrifice and duty.
The conscripts will receive a monthly allowance of 10,000 baht, uniforms and medical insurance coverage.
