Latest Public Health Scotland data shows West Lothian is now the most infectious place for Covid-19 in Scotland

West Lothian is now the most infectious place for Covid-19 in Scotland.

The latest Public Health Scotland data revealed that 178 residents per 100,000 of the population have tested positive over the past week.

This is significantly the highest figure in Scotland, with East Renfrewshire second highest with 128.

It also means West Lothian is more than two times the national average of 71.

Under the Scottish Governments new thresholds then West Lothian would be placed into Level Four in April when the country opens back up.

Regions with infection rates between 50 and 150 per 100,000 will be placed into Level Three.

In West Lothian, there were 60 new infections as of March 20, with 325 over the seven days between March 12 and 18, and a new total in the county of 7394 since records began last year.

The PHS heatmap shows that the spike in infections in West Lothian can be located to Livingston.

Seven neighborhoods in the region sit in the higher zones on the PHS heatmap.

Livingston Village and Eliburn South with 65 new cases over the week and Craigshill with 26 sit in the highest catefgory with more than 400 cases per 100,000 residents.

Howden, Ladywell, Knightsridge, Deans and Carmondean and Eliburn North all sit in the second highest zone on the PHS heatmap with between 200 and 399 cases per 100,000 people.

The Courier revealed last week the there had been a Covid-19 outbreak at Peel Primary in Livingston.

And a UK Government mobile testing unit is open in Livingston from today onwards, to try and stop infection from spreading further.

Nicola Sturgeon will address the nation tomorrow and it will be revealed if the latest spike in infections will derail her planned exit from lockdown in April.
