Latest Public Health Scotland Covid infection rate data as much of Scotland moves to Level 2

A further 161 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

New data was published this afternoon as part of a daily update by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland.

No new deaths were recorded overnight, meaning Scotland's death toll from the virus stays at 7,664.

However, 10,104 fatalities have been registered in Scotland where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to Sunday, May 9.

In terms of Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, Glasgow City has by far and away the highest rate in the country — at 100.3 as of Thursday, April 29.

East Renfrewshire has the second-highest infection rate at 86.9 while Moray is third with 59.5.

Of Ayrshire's three local authorities, North Ayrshire has the highest rate of 28.2 compared to East Ayrshire (21.3) and South Ayrshire (20.4). The national average is 34.8.

Ayrshire has recorded two new cases of the virus in the last 24 hours.

There are currently 68 Covid patients in Scottish hospitals — with fewer than five in the NHS Ayrshire & Arran health board region.

Currently, three people are receiving treatment for the disease in intensive care nationally.

Latest figures also show 3,035,790 people have received their first dose of a Covid vaccine and 1,638,536 have received their second dose.
