The 2020 summer transfer window may be officially closed for business in England, but already attention is switching to the January window opening in just over two months time.
Despite clubs having been hit massively in a financial sense over the last few months because of the coronavirus pandemic, many clubs’ owners managed to dig deep into their pockets to spend big over the summer.
Among the biggest spenders over the summer were Arsenal, Chelsea, Leeds United, Liverpool and Manchester City, as they all strengthened their squads to bolster their chances of achieving their respective ambitions for the 2020/21 campaign.
But with the gossip columns already starting to be filled ahead of January, we have taken a close look at all the very latest rumours and snippets emerging from across the top-flight.
Man United and Spurs dealt Dybala blow
Any hopes Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur had of signing versatile Juventus attacker Paolo Dybala in January appear to be all but over.
Sky Sports report that the Argentinian, who can operate as either an attacking-midfielder or a striker, is set to sign a new contract in Turin.
Fabio Paratici - Juventus’ chief football officer - has confirmed that talks are underway to extend his stay in Italy.
Man United and Spurs were closely linked with him over the summer, with the latter having been very close to landing him back in the summer of 2019.
Arsenal face Aouar battle
Arsenal will be forced to enter a battle with Juventus if they are to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar either in January or next summer, reports in Italy claim.
Aouar was closely linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium throughout the summer, with the Gunners seeing a bid knocked back for the French ace.
Despite maintaining their interest in securing his services, they now face a stern battle from Italian heavyweights Juventus, who are also keen on the midfielder.
And according to reports in Italy, Juventus are now leading the chase to secure his signature.
Blades target Rojo move
Sheffield United are keen on signing out-of-favour Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo, The Sun claims.
The Blades, who are yet to win in the Premier League this season, are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements after losing star defender Jack O’Connell to a long-term injury, which could rule him out for the rest of the season.
Rojo, according to the report, could be allowed to leave in January.
It is thought that the Old Trafford club would have let him go over the summer, but they decided to keep hold of him to include him in their Champions League squad.
