Latest on Taoiseach Micheal Martin and Dr Tony Holohan as level five lockdown decision made

Coalition leaders and Dr Tony Holohan will meet this morning to discuss NPHET's latest recommendations.

The Government will hear from the returning Chief Medical Officer on why the health experts believe Ireland should move to level five restrictions.

NPHET met on Sunday in an emergency meeting where the massive leap to level five was both suggested and agreed upon.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar and Green party leader Eamon Ryan will all hold the meeting with Dr Holohan before heading back to Cabinet.

The recommendation has so far been greeted with shock and reports suggest there will be some pushback from the Government in regards a return to draconian measures.

Eamon Ryan had said on Sunday that he was hopeful both Dublin and Donegal could avoid level four and the rest of the country could avoid level three.

Level five would mean a return to similar measures seen in March with most shops closing, everyone working from home and only leaving the house for essential reasons or exercise within 5km.
