Latest on Nottingham Forest stadium plans as accounts show heavy losses

Nottingham Forest posted an operating loss of almost £32m in their latest set of accounts.

The figures for the period from April 2019 to May 2020 show the club’s operating loss for the year was £31.9m - down from £34.4m the previous year.

That was reduced to a loss before tax of £15.9m after interest, profit on disposal of players and a historical loan write-off. For 2019/20 the pre-tax loss was £25.1m.

Turnover showed a small growth, from £25.3m to £25.7m, but the club say they were “on track to report a record turnover” before the season was suspended in March.

Stadium redevelopment update

Nottingham Forest say they are “optimistic” of seeing their application to redevelop the City Ground approved this year.

The club provided an update on plans to transform their stadium in their latest set of accounts, which were released today.

And the Reds say they have already spent more than £2m directly related to the redevelopment plan.

Forest first announced their intention to transform their home into a world-class venue in a multi-million pound project in 2019.

Injury latest

Nottingham Forest could be boosted by the return of Scott McKenna and Harry Arter for their clash with Reading on Saturday.

The pair have had a lengthy spell on the sidelines but returned to training last week and boss Chris Hughton says they have “done enough” to be considered for selection.

The Reds manager admits he has some difficult calls to make, however, with midfielder Fouad Bachirou now the only player on the treatment table.

Defender McKenna (ankle) has been out of action since the defeat to Middlesbrough seven weeks ago, while midfielder Arter (calf) has not featured since the start of January and the FA Cup victory over Cardiff City.

Goalkeeper's situation

Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton hopes forgotten summer signing Abdoulaye Diallo can provide some goalkeeping competition in the remaining weeks of the season.

The 28-year-old has yet to make a single first-team appearance or be included in a matchday squad for the Reds.

He made the move to the City Ground in September, while Sabri Lamouchi was still in charge, signing as a free agent after leaving Turkish side Genclerbirligi.

Since then, he has found himself third-choice stopper behind Brice Samba and Jordan Smith, and has been hampered by injury problems.
