Talks between Everton and Nice over the transfer of Morgan Schneiderlin had taken place - but reached no conclusion.
Reports in France last night said that the Blues were in advanced discussions with the Ligue 1 club but the ECHO has been told that matters did not make it that far.
Nice may yet return to the negotiating table for the 30-year-old who is believed to be available for sale this summer.
Schneiderlin will enter the final 12 months of his contract next month and with Everton trying to raise funds through player sales, they are open to offers for the former France international.

The £20m signing from Manchester United is recovering from knee surgery in February after he suffered a torn meniscus.
Schneiderlin is said to be making good progress in his rehabilitation and the Blues have not ruled him out of playing some part before the season finishes at the end of July.
