Latest on caravan fires which caused 'explosions' by Horfield Common

Police have issued a description for a potential suspect after two caravan fires near Horfield Common.

Firefighters were twice called to Kellaway Avenue on July 27, when caravans caught alight – one in the afternoon and another at 11.13pm.

The fires, which led to neighbours complaining of "explosions", left the vehicles as two burned-out shells.

Police, who believe they were started deliberately, have released a description for a potential suspect.

An Avon and Somerset police spokesman said: "He is white, in his 40s, 5ft 10ins and he was wearing a black jacket with white writing on it."

In April, firefighters dealt with a caravan fire which was believed to be deliberate near the M32 in Eastville. There was also a caravan fire next to the M32 in St Werburghs in February.

The force spokesman said police are treating the two suspected arsons in Kellaway Avenue as linked, but added: "At this stage we don’t have anything to suggest they are linked to the other fires."

Officers, who have been making house-to-house enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage, are trying to identify the owners of the caravans.

Horfield councillor Claire Hiscott called on anyone with information about the fires to go to police.

Posting on Facebook last week, she said: "These events are unprecedented in our area and are not reflective of our community.
