Latest on Bristol ice rink as more revealed about leisure complex with Costa and Land Rover showroom

More details have emerged about the timescale of the Cribbs Causeway leisure complex.

The first phase of the development is set to include an ice rink, skydiving centre, Jaguar Land Rover showroom, Costa Coffee drive-thru.

The long-awaited scheme was formally granted planning permission in April 2017. Developers Baylis Estates hoped it would open the following year, but unknown issues prevented that happening.

Baylis managing director David Mace told Bristol Live in July he hoped to be able to confirm a date for the rink's opening by the end of August.

But today (August 30) he said the date is now likely to be revealed in "the early part of next week", because the project's lawyers are yet to give the go ahead.

Mr Mace also said the drive-thru is set to launch in early to mid November, after the site is handed over to Costa on October 18.

The showroom is likely to open in March or April, he added.

'Mid to late 2020' for ice rink

Mr Mace said in July: "[The rink] is likely to take nine months to build, plus quite an extensive fit-out, so we’re looking at 12 months from the start of the building process, which takes us into mid to late 2020.”

He also spoke about the skydiving centre, which is likely to open in the third or fourth quarter of next year.

"We can positively say both the skydiving centre and ice rink will be running in 2020," he added.

What happened to the ski slope plans?

Mr Mace confirmed last month a planned ski slope had been shelved because the company due to deliver it, Skiplex, had gone into administration.

Phase Two – a hotel and retail space – has outline planning consent, but Mr Mace does not yet have an expected date of completion.

The ice rink will be the first to open in Bristol since the Frogmore Street site closed in 2012. It will have capacity for 1,300 spectators.

It will become home to the Bristol Pitbulls ice hockey team, along with hosting public skating sessions.
