Conferences and seminars

Computer science in action: Thursday 11 February 2016, 9.15am to 4.00pm, The Guardian, Kings Place 90 York Way

This one day conference for secondary computer science teachers, run by Guardian Education Centre and Teacher Network, will look at the impact of the computing science curriculum, share good classroom practice and resources, and examine successful strategies to increase the uptake of the subject by girls at GCSE and beyond.

There will be opportunities to meet members of the digital development team, discuss the relationship between journalism and coding and explore the growing range of careers. The day will also look at future trends and skills required in the tech industry.

In the afternoon you will take part in a hands-on journalism and coding workshop in the Education Centre where you will code your own interactive news quiz using that day's stories.

Peter Kemp, secondary lead for computer science PGCE at Roehampton University, will discuss successful strategies to promote engagement and raise achievement in computer science. There will be sessions led by schools on good practice in the subject along with networking opportunities.

Each month we provide resource material that can be used in the classroom.

This month, in celebration of the festive period we have produced an advent calendar quiz with multiple choice questions based on 25 of our previous teaching resources from the GNM archive.

If you're stuck, you'll be able to find all the answers in the original resources in the series.
