Newcastle United’s hopes of Premier League safety largely rest on the quality of their transfer business over the next few weeks.
There have been a number of onfield improvements since Eddie Howe took over from Steve Bruce, but the squad needs reinforcements to stay in the top flight.
The arrival of Kieran Trippier looks imminent and supporters are hoping that he will be joined by a couple more defenders throughout January.

If that is the case, then the Magpies will be very confident of being able to maintain their Premier League status, otherwise it could go right down to the wire.
The bookmakers are currently predicting Howe’s side to just about stay in the top flight with Norwich, Watford and Burnley all at shorter odds to be relegated.
Considering their record in recent years and their hopeless recent form, the Canaries are widely being seen as a team with no chance of staying up and they are priced at 1/16 to go down.
A team in similarly poor form, Watford, are the next most likely to drop back into the Championship according to the bookmakers despite them not being in the bottom three currently. Claudio Ranieri’s side are 4/7 to be relegated.
Following their 3-1 defeat to fellow relegation rivals Leeds on Sunday, Burnley are the next favourites to lose their status as a Premier League club with a price of 4/6 being offered.
Then comes Newcastle whose top-flight fate is hanging in the balance if the odds are anything to go by. With just two points separating them from safety at present, the bookies have priced the Magpies at evens to go down.
