From Thursday, June 2, many people in Wales will be beginning the start of four days off work to mark the Queen's platinum jubilee. Given that it will also be the start of the summer, most will be hoping for some good weather to make the most of the time off. To try and help you plan your time WalesOnline spoke to meteorologists at the Met Office to find out what the weather has in store for us.
It is important to bear in mind that beyond about four days it gets very hard to predict the weather with any great level of precision. There are simply too many variables. However they were able to give us their best estimates based on the information currently available. Thursday, June 2 - sunny in the main with temperatures peaking at 21c
A Met Office meteorologist said: "It is a little bit tricky to predict but it looks at the moment, like Thursday should be essentially dry for many across Wales. But there's a chance of seeing a bit more cloud towards the south and west of the country into the afternoon, and that may bring the risk of isolated light showers but not anything heavy."
In terms of temperatures he said that it will be warmer than it is currently. He said: "Essentially, it should be warmer than at present. Temperatures are struggling at the minute. Temperatures at the moment across Wales are 13-15C, for example. By Thursday we should see temperatures picking up. We could see sort 16-20C, maybe 21C.
"It's going to get warmer. We should see some sunny spells on on the first day, chances are a bit more cloudy south and west into the afternoon. Possibly a risk of an isolated shower."
Friday, June 3 - Temperatures of 21C max but depends on cloud
"As we go into Friday it is looking at a little bit more cloudy," said the meteorologist. "There could be a touch more cloud around across Wales on Friday, particularly inland away from the coast. Again, there is chance the odd light shower, but there'll be a reasonably amount of dry weather around as well. Although it may not be unbroken sunshine, there will be sunny spells. Temperatures probably not far off what we saw on the Thursday, maybe even up to 21C, but that is very dependent on how much cloud there is — it will be on the warm side on the Friday."
Saturday and Sunday - Potential for gorgeous settled weather but still too early to tell for sure
Once you start getting seven days into the future, concrete forecasts are tricky. However there are reasons for optimism for a sunny weekend. The Met Office meteorologist staid: "As we head into the weekend I think the general picture is going to be one of high pressure likely to build in across the the west and/or north of the UK through that bank holiday weekend. So depending on the centre of gravity for that there should be dry and fair weather with sunny spells and temperatures feeding warmth and sunshine but there could be some cloudy periods spells in amongst. it really does depend on where that high pressure located. It's looking promising for that holiday weekend, particularly across the west of the UK."
