Latest Met Office and BBC weather forecasts show August could be washout

After the scorching heatwave last month, it looks like August is going to see a return of the typical British summer weather.

According to forecasts from both the BBC and the Met Office, the first half of the month is set to be a washout with lots of rain and even thunderstorms predicted.

The BBC Weather forecast says we will have eight days of rain from Tuesday (August 6).

This means those attending this year's highly-anticipated Bristol Balloon Fiesta should prepare for some wet weather.

The BBC's outlook for this weekend says: "On Saturday, the best of the sunshine is expected early on, before cloud thickens from the west.

"It should remain largely dry by day, but there will be a risk of showery rain through the evening and overnight hours.

"Sunday and Monday could see some outbreaks of rain from time to time, but the patchy nature of the rain means that some areas may remain dry altogether."

It's a similar story according to the Met Office, which forecasts heavy showers next week on Tuesday (August 6) as well as spells of light rain the following day.

A forecaster for the weather agency says: "Through the rest of the week, low pressure is likely to be located just to the west of the UK. This would bring west to southwesterly winds across the majority of the UK.

"This pattern would bring occasional spells of rain, which could be heavy at times, into western parts, with daytime showers breaking out more generally elsewhere.

"Temperatures will mostly be around average, but if winds become more southerly at times then some warm or very warm weather may develop across the south."
