Man Utd lurch into crisis mode after a defeat which took no one by surprise

Manchester United’s wretched season plummeted to new depths after a latest humiliation at Newcastle on Sunday.

A 1-0 defeat at St James’ Park leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side just two points off the relegation zone with Premier League leaders Liverpool coming to town following the international break.

Men Utd’s 4-0 win over Chelsea on the opening day of the season now feels like a lifetime ago with serious doubts over the club’s direction and leadership creeping in.

While United have laboured without the injured Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial, the decisions to allow both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to leave the club with no suitable replacements brought in will fall under further scutiny.

The club’s hopes of securing a top four finish have already taken a sizeable blow with questions now being asked if they are capable of finishing in the top six.

Watch Standard Sport’s Manchester correspondent James Robson dissect United’s latest setback and where they go from here in the video above.
