The latest luxury bus from Club Tourism International Inc., a Tokyo-based travel agency, looks like a salon inside. Its chic appearance is the work of industrial designer Eiji Mitooka, who also created Kyushu Railway Co.'s luxurious "Seven Stars in Kyushu" train.
The bus seats 18 passengers, with six rows of three seats each, in a space usually provided for almost 50 people.
The interior is decorated with wood, creating a relaxing atmosphere. There is also a bar counter serving tea and coffee.
Mitooka told the media that he decorated the bus to let passengers "discover something new, every time they traveled on it." The bus tours began this month.
Tours offering unique experiences on buses are the latest trend in the industry. So-called "bus restaurants" offer hearty meals, while others have elaborate interior designs aimed at female passengers.
