Latest Leeds United transfer rumours: Udinese drop Rodrigo De Paul asking price, Holding blow

Leeds United will be aiming to get their first points on the board this weekend, as they welcome Fulham to Elland Road in what will be their first Premier League home game since 2004.

The Whites were close to earning a point away to champions Liverpool in their season opener last weekend - a game in which a number of their summer signings featured.

Robin Koch and Rodrigo were both involved, while Helder Costa and Illan Meslier also played at Anfield after their loan moves were made permanent.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side aren’t necessarily done in the transfer market, though.

And with that in mind, here is a round-up of the very latest Leeds rumours.

Leeds still pushing for De Paul move

Leeds’ interest in Udinese star Rodrigo De Paul has been rumbling on over the last few weeks, with the midfielder left out of his club’s squad for a recent friendly.

There are contrasting reports coming out of Italy, with some publications suggesting a switch is unlikely, but the Venetian media appears convinced the deal is far from dead.

According to Messagero Veneto, via HITC, Leeds remain ‘hot’ in their pursuit of the attacking-midfielder, who scored seven Serie A goals last season.

Udinese, who finished last season in 13th place, have reportedly lowered their demands to £27.5m plus bonuses for the 26-year-old.

If Leeds can get a deal over the line for that amount, it would pass the club record £26m fee paid to sign Rodrigo from Valencia and take their summer spending above £80m.

Orta targets Chambers reunion

Callum Chambers was one of Victor Orta’s more experienced signings during his spell at Middlesbrough, and Leeds’ director of football could be about to sign the versatile Englishman for a second time.

The Arsenal defender spent the 2016/17 season on loan at the Riverside Stadium, where he put in some good performances but was unable to save Boro from relegation, and is now back in north London but down the pecking order for a starting place under Mikel Arteta.

According to TeamTalk, Leeds face competition for Chambers, with Newcastle United, West Ham United and Fulham - where he spent the 2018/19 season on loan - also in the hunt.

Chambers played 14 league games for Arsenal last season, but suffered a cruciate ligament injury in December and has been on the recovery trail in the months since.

With the Gunners adding Pablo Mari, Cedric Soares and Gabriel Magalhaes to their squad in 2020, they are well-stocked at both right-back and centre-back, meaning Chambers could be allowed to leave.

Arteta performed Holding U-turn

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has had a change of heart over centre-back Rob Holding, bringing the central-defender back into the first team fold just as it had looked like he would be allowed to leave on loan.

Indeed, Leeds are one of a number of teams who had agreed loan terms over the former Bolton defender, if reports are to be believed.

As reported by TeamTalk, the likes of Leeds, Fulham, Aston Villa, West Ham and Newcastle all agreed terms, though reports elsewhere suggested Newcastle were the front-runners.

Leeds have been in need of defensive reinforcements following their failure to clinch a permanent move for former loanee Ben White, whilst an injury to Liam Cooper forced Bielsa to use the untested pairing of Pascal Struijk and Robin Koch in the 4-3 defeat at Liverpool.

Holding looks unlikely to fill that role, though, having started for Arsenal in their Premier League opener against Fulham.
